Treatments Used
We use a variety of different treatments depending on the injury/condition and the individual. Only after a thorough assessment and discussion with the patient will we formulate a specific treatment plan. The techniques include hands on manual therapy, acupuncture, exercise and electrotherapy. A simple home exercise programme is also usually given to help maintain and hopefully improve the results achieved in the clinic.
Hands-On Manual Therapy
- Soft Tissue Massage
- Stretching techniques
Improves mobility of the muscles, tendons and ligaments
- Soft Tissue Mobilisation
- Manipulation and Mobilisation
Frees up restricted joints to improve overall movement and allow better muscular control.
Acupuncture
We use acupuncture in the clinic for pain relief in both acute and chronic musculo-skeletal conditions. It is also very effective at releasing trigger points in muscle, which makes follow up stretching easier. It is occasionally used to stimulate tissue healing at the junction between tendons and bone or around joints. See the Acupuncture Society website for more information.
Electrotherapy
- Ultrasound
- Interferential
- Curpuls
- Laser
Uses electrical modalities to stimulate healing and enhance recovery of muscles and joints.
Rehabilitation
- Exercise
- Post Operative Rehabilitation
- Core Stability Training
Improves/maintains the benefit gained with treatment.
Helps with recovery of normal function.
Reduces the risk of the injury recurring.
Equipment Used To Assist Treatment & Reduce Injury
We offer several items that can help to alleviate pain, speed recovery, or prevent injury. These are available for sale at the Clinic.
Balance Cushion
Improves balance and muscular control; especially effective following lower limb injuries and post operative surgery.
Cold Packs
Assists in pain control and reducing swelling after injury.
Flexaball
Improves balance, muscular control and core stability.
Hot Packs
Helps reduce pain, tension and tightness. Can be used before a home exercise programme.
Hyperfix Tape
Helps support joints and muscles.
Knee Brace
- ACL or ligament instability brace. Used to prevent and control abnormal movements in the knee and restore stability to knees with torn ligaments. Allows a much quicker return to a chosen sport or activity.
- Knee joint arthritis brace. Used with the aim to off load the worn joint surfaces to reduce pain. Also helps to restore balance to the knee.
Both braces work with the body encouraging normal muscle function. There is no risk of muscles wasting or weakening when either brace is used.
Leaflets
A variety of informative leaflets are available, free of charge, on many conditions.
Lumbar Support
Positioned, while sitting, in small of back as a means of support to improve and maintain good posture.
Patella Taping Kit
Helps with improving muscular control during recovery from anterior knee pain caused by maltracking of patello femoral joint.
Tennis Elbow Clasp
Reduces pull/tension of forearm muscles on elbow tendonitis, therefore, reducing pain.
TENS Machine
Assists in pain control and reduces need for medication
