Practice Principal
I qualified as a Remedial Gymnast and Recreational Therapist at the University Hospital of Wales. While studying for my diploma I also worked in miner's rehabilitation centres in South Wales and Cheshire . After further examinations and qualifying as a Chartered Physiotherapist I went to work at Northampton General Hospital moving on a few years later to St Bartholomew's Hospital in London . In both hospitals I managed their sports injury clinics and worked as a Senior Physiotherapist in Outpatients specialising in spinal problems and sports injuries. Following my work with the NHS I took over the running of The Physiotherapy & Sports Clinic in Morpeth near Newcastle in 1991 and designed and built the Clinic in Cramlington which opened in 2004.
Special Interests
- Sports injuries, especially football, rugby, athletics and racquet sports working closely with individual coaches when necessary.
- Spinal problems - focusing on long term management.

Summary of Clinical Experience
In my early career I specialised in Respiratory Care and particularly Paediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care. My work took me from Liverpool to London then onto Manchester and Birmingham with a short spell in Australia . On moving to the North East I decided to change tack and retrained as a musculo-skeletal physiotherapist, gaining several post graduate qualifications along the way. Before starting work at The Physiotherapy & Sports Clinic in 2005, I worked at Northumbria Healthcare Trust taking an active role in the post graduate training of the musculo-skeletal physiotherapists.
Special Interests
- Acupuncture ( including trigger point and periosteal techniques)
- Management of Acute and Chronic Sports Injuries
- Repetitive strain injuries eg achilles tendinopathy and tennis elbow
- Shoulder problems (including post surgery)
- Spinal problems (including nerve pain such as sciatica)
- The management of chronic pain

Clinical Experience
I have spent 12 years in the NHS working in trauma and orthopaedics, including research. I have also spent 12 years in the independent sector specialising in rehabilitation of people with shoulder, knee, sports and general injury problems, including 4 years in on-site occupational health. I joined the Physiotherapy & Sports Clinic in 2006.

- Cycling related musculo-skeletal problems
- Rehabilitation of the knee, especially following cruciate ligament injury
- Functional bracing for instability or painful arthritis
- Anterior knee pain
- Shoulder injury and sports problem, shoulder dislocation, rotator cuff tears

Clinical Experience
I have worked since graduating for the NHS in Gateshead . My current role is upper limb specialist (physiotherapist). I have also worked in private practice for BUPA and more recently ran my own clinic in Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne. I joined the Physiotherapy & Sports Clinic in August 2009.
