First Visit

What to expect
On your first visit the initial assessment, which may take up to one hour, will involve a history taking, a full physical examination of the problem area, treatment and advice. The nature and actual site of the problem will be examined and related to your whole person before making a diagnosis. You may want to wear suitable clothing to allow us to do this. Only after a full consultation with you, with plenty of time for questions, will the physiotherapist decide on the best form of treatment.
If subsequent visits are required this will also be discussed and an individually tailored treatment programme planned. The treatment may include a wide range of skills including manipulation, mobilisation, massage, motivation and exercises, often aided by the use of sophisticated electronic and electrical apparatus all designed to help with pain relief and to promote recovery. Time will also be spent teaching you how to avoid a recurrence of your problem. Review appointments will always involve a reassessment of your progress as well as treatment. To accurately examine you, we will need to see the appropriate area of the body.
You do not need a referral from your GP but as a courtesy we will inform them of your condition, assessment results and treatment plan unless you request otherwise.
